Industry 4.0

what is industry 4.0?

Over the past five years, there has been a lot of talk in the digital media about Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT) as the fourth industrial revolution. In Germany, there has been a lively public debate on Industry 4.0, with government strategies and investments, the creation of an industry interest group, research projects, publications, etc.

Indeed, Industry 4.0 incorporates the Internet of Things, big data, social media, cloud computing, sensors, artificial intelligence, robotics and their application to the production, distribution and use of physical goods. Cyber-physical systems are embedded computing systems with chips embedded in manufactured products that enable their networking and connection to the Internet.

Connectivity between humans via social media and massive data collection has extended to machines, enabling the creation of networks of communicating machines. Indeed, in Industry 4.0, different technologies are interconnected over the Internet, which can lead to an extreme scenario where an asset is entirely produced, delivered, used, repaired and recycled without human intervention.
